The whole time, consciously or unconsciously, John has viewed Sherlock as his superior officer, someone he needs to trust and take orders from in order to make their friendship/crime solving work.” (x)
And that little nod he gives… its the kind a lower ranking officer would give when being dismissed. Its either a ‘Yes, sir.’ or a short nod. And so he’s being dismissed. He’s being dismissed from whatever life he had before Sherlock died.
That nod is like he’s accepting that this is what he’s going to have to deal with for the rest of his life </3
